A new report from RealtyTrac shows foreclosure filings across the nation are on the rise once again. The recent data continues to cast a heavy gloom over a housing market that refuses to bounce back. Foreclosure filings were reported on more than 230,000 residencies in October. This figure represents a 7 percent increase from September, but a 31 percent decrease from the year [...]Becky Sarwate wrote a new blog post: Foreclosures Rise 7 Percent in October 5 months, 3 weeks ago · View

According to the latest report from RealtyTrac, an online marketplace of foreclosure properties, foreclosures could start to rise again after a yearlong decline. More U.S. homes are entering the foreclosure process and they’re taking even longer to sell, which means the housing market is still taking a tough beating. Foreclosure filings, which include default notices, scheduled auctions and bank repossessions, [...]Becky Sarwate wrote a new blog post: Foreclosure Activity on the Rise 6 months, 3 weeks ago · View

According to the S&P/Case-Shiller Indices released today, there’s both good and bad news for the housing market. Let’s start with the positives: Home prices increased for the fourth consecutive month, and Detroit showed a positive rate of change year-over-year. That’s great news for one of the worst housing markets in the country. The indices showed mortgage default rates dropping [...]Becky Sarwate wrote a new blog post: S&P/Case-Shiller Releases Latest Home Price Index 7 months, 3 weeks ago · View

It’s hard to escape the reality of the bad economy and stagnant housing market. Every time you turn on the news, there’s a story about the European economic crisis or high unemployment numbers in the U.S. Even so, a new Trulia survey reveals 70 percent of people still want to own a home as part of their American Dream. So [...]Becky Sarwate wrote a new blog post: Survey Reveals Biggest Obstacle to Homeownership 7 months, 3 weeks ago · View

While the collective outlook for the rest of the year is somewhat positive, there’s more bad news for the housing market . Earlier this week, the U.S. Census Bureau and the Department of Urban and Housing Development jointly released their latest estimates for new home sales in July 2011 . What shouldn’t come as a shock is still nonetheless somewhat of a surprise, as the [...]Becky Sarwate wrote a new blog post: Sales of New Homes Fall in July 8 months, 3 weeks ago · View

Unfortunately, the housing market has yet to recover throughout most of the country and the national unemployment rate remains high. While it’s no picnic for most of us to deal with these challenges, the stress can be increased by individuals who turn to crime to profit off those in dire straits. As the summer rolls on, the mixed housing news just keeps coming. Yesterday, the U.S. Census Bureau and the Department of Commerce announced construction spending in June was estimated to be 0.2 percent above the revised May 2011 estimate. Good news right? Except…. This modest increase is a further indication of the stagnant economy. In fact, the June 2011 estimated [...]Becky Sarwate wrote a new blog post: June 2011 Construction Numbers 9 months, 2 weeks ago · View

It sounds like your kitchen is going to be gorgeous. Laminate counters are nice because they can be replaced if ruined by renters, but granite is always gorgeous. That will be a hard decision. Good luck!
